north obviously. he should appreciate how good a hand he has on the bidding - he could have a heart or 2 more, the king of spades less and a minor honour or 2 in the heart suit.

If I had a spectrum of options for North that is:

Only 4♠,

4♥ and then respect partner's decision, or

Bid past 4♠,

I would pick 4♥ and then respect partner's decision. However, I would score bidding past 4♠ higher than only 4♠.
