Should I be glad 2S wasn't available over 1C? Will admit that would have been my choice, but now pass seems prudent.

What makes you want to bid overcall 2S? Is it the spots, the distribution or the vulnerability?

The thought that it looks like a weak two-bid. The only thing I don't like about it is the Jack of clubs.

Indeed I would have considered 2 had we been playing WJOs, but we agreed IJOs when vulnerable, and this hand isn't good enough for that IMHO.

Bidding within your agreements is a good thing. I hope you passed, the second time ---regardless of result.

If you are considering 2 here, you should have considered it on the last round.

Edit: OK I see youre playing IJOs. I'd still pass now.

This is the type of hand I hold when that little gremlin in my head is saying "bid, bid, bid!!" while the conservative, sensible part of me is becoming very uncomfortable. The gremlin still wins at times.

I think this is a textbook 2 over 1 since you can not bid again. When you dont do it, you end up wondering what to do now . You have to pass it.

I dont understand the complaints about the shape, the spots the vulnerability. We are not bidding 4 or slam. We are bidding 2 for god's sake. We are vulnerable but so they are. Definition of WJ overcall is 6 card suit and 6-11 hcp. We dont have spots but any 6 card suit headed by AQ is very well qualified for this bid. It tells the number of spades and our strength very well as oppose to ambigious 1 bid which can be made by a wide variety of hands. I also never saw a single source that says you need to have a shortness when you make a preemptive overcall. Regardless, none of the above has the advantage of putting 2 in front of the LHO in the long run imo.

Starting 1 now we want to bid 2 if only pd knows that we are stretching our hand and that we dont have extras. We probably have an 8 card fit and it is usually right to play it at 2 level as oppose to defending 1 NT or their 2 level partscore.

Edit: Sorry i saw weak 2 was not available.
