I'm not endorsing South's call, but what would 4 have shown instead of 3N?

I would think it would show a better hand like maybe 14+ hcp not GIB points
mildly slam invitational I would assume

It ought to be choice of majors. GIB probably wants a better hand for this but at this level the HCP requirements need to be adjusted downward as getting to best strain has priority,

yes I meant choice of majors but def a good hand mildly intested in bidding on

I don't think it has to be at all mildly interested in bidding on. In fact it might be a mild overbid to be in game at all. But given that doubler of a preempt is often going to be some 4-3 in the majors, there's considerable equity in consistently getting to the 4-4 fit rather than a 4-3 fit. or 9 cd fit instead of 4-4 if doubler happen to be 5-4 in majors.

Thus, I'm saying that the HCP requirement for the cue should probably be lower than it is right now, so NOT necessarily interest in bidding past game. 10 count like the example hand is enough. Although 3nt should of course also be option, and let the simulation decide which is best.

it can be a two way street, to avoid playing 4-3 major fit when we have a 5-4 possibly or 4-4
but next bid would def be mild slam try
