With a pickup partner that would pass 3 after you cue bid s, I'd simply bid 3 NT. If partner has as little as a stiff , you're likely to be able to produce 6 or 7 tricks from your suit.

No, partner bids up the line.

I agree that 3 must be forcing but it isn't here, this partner is not a bbf'er :)
I know it's an impossible auction/question but this is what you are faced with when
you play with pickup partners and you have to make the best of it, or stop playing.

This is apparently called "doing your time".

I know it can be frustrating, but I think it is harmful to both your playing and your pickup partners if you adjust and try to compensate for them. Make the bid that you believe to be correct, and live with the consequences. If you can talk to pickup you can ask and maybe you'll find out there is a different style/treatment or what not, or maybe you'll find that they were right and you were wrong, or often you'll find they were wrong (and maybe they'll learn something). You can always check with friends, coaches, pros, BBOForums to get confirmation or correction when accidents/disasters happen. But the right question, IMHO, isn't what's the best blast/mastermind, it is just 3 is 100% forcing here right? (yes) BTW, even if it is, is that what you'd bid with this hand? (no for xcurt, yes for many others).

oer 5 we are trying for grand, it looks a bit odd though but I would stillbid 5 hoping to hear 6 pr 5. Over 6 7 over 5 5NT. This on an ideal world, with a partner who passes 3 I would be so worried that I would bid 6 over 5.

new partnership; inverted minors, criss cross, wjs.
Can you find anything intelligent creative (see below) to do here?

Jilly

Can you kindly post the link to the actual hand and traveller? I would love to see what everyone did on this hand.

Thanks.

And yes, inverted GF, criss cross LR - is that not standard, why would you want 2 gf raises?

It's not standard where I play. Why would you assume the alternative is two GF raises?

This was a hand from a Regional, not a BBO game.

That was a response to the comment that inverted and criss cross were mutually exclusive.
