The BB-Forum membership has grown considerably in the last few months. Early on there was a series of "Test your play" kind of problems entitled "good ideas" that were designed just for novices/beginners/intermediate players posted on this site. The idea was that expert and advanced players would find interesting hands, and then post them in this discussion group as practice tools for our members and guest.

None have been posted lately, and of course, now with the WONDERFUL "Master play" on line, they may not even be necessary. But the question is, are these useful to the members and would you like to see more of them?

The original problems are still here, but may be hard to find. So I have provided the following links for any beginner wishing to give these a try. Careful, all these have been answered now, so you should stop and solve the problem before reading the remainder of the threads that give the answer. Of course, if you find a better solution... POST it. :-)

I think it's still a great idea. At least beginner bridge players will be more active in this forum. They can not only raise problem but also answer problem.
Although i'm not an expert player, i believe many players like me will be willing to post interesting hands here if they have right answers.

Many times there are no right answers. You want to teach the right thing and not confuse them.

Well, of course FREEE, none of the problems in the Good idea set would be challenging for you. They are meant for novices, beginners and low-level intermediates, and they are POSTED IN THE BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE FORUM. They were never meant to challeng a player of your ability. Instead, you are the kind of person who should be helping find and post such "easy" problems in the good idea set instead of trying to solve them.

The "more challenging" problems can be found in the forums "Interesting Bridge Hands" and "advanced and Expert forum". . While for the most part, the good idea problems are appropriate for beginners and intermediates, the problems found it in the advance/expert and interesting hand forums are of varying ability. Some truely difficult, others more suited for the intermeidate or less level. Here is a list of links to the "mored difficult" problems found in these other discussion groups (in no particular order)....(for future, the website with the links jumps around so these links in weeks may no longer work... but the showtopic number etc will still work, but the bridge2 part might change).

As a beginner/intermediate, I find the hands and challenges very interesting and they lead to good pointers in approach/technique.

Could I suggest that adv+ only post after a couple of days to allow beginners / intermediates to post their approach and subsequently to then receive helpful advice on how it should be done!

When the solution is posted - it's too easy to peek before trying!

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Of course, problems posted in Beginner/Intermediate forum should not be answered by "experts" like free and Mike, and Advanced players like Mike. Just as they really should not be voting in this poll. I mean, the question is rather Beginners, novice and intermediate players find the good idea hands interesting. They really SHOULD not be a challenge at all to experts, after all.

In fact, I posted my interesting hand and advanced/expert hand to give those guys something to do rather than complain how easy the beginner hands were.
