Hi, do you have any plans how to get away from the world cup in soccer? I'm living in Germany, 40 km from one of the stadiums... (I know watching Verona Vugraph will be one way :()

Why on earth would one want to get away from the World Cup? I am dying to watch all I have time for. And one correction, Gerben: it's football, the real thing you know!

Get AWAY from the world cup?

Regretfully, my camping trip in Montana is going to conflict with quite a few games. Even so, I'm expecting to ensconce myself in the local Brazilian steakhouse/bar for a lot of the action.

You're not exactly roughing it, wilderness camping then Richard? :(

oops

I was referring to a Brazilian place in central square that I'm going to move in to when I return. However, the montana trip is isn't going to involve much real hiking... Lot of car camping and day trips.

House swap with someone who wants to be close to the action.

Have you increased insurance/security of your home? In case the wrong team wins!

I'm off to Crete. Sadly that might not be far enough, but I'll do my best.

I'm running TOWARDS the World Cup, to see if the U.S. can live up to their number 4 ranking. That and it'll give me time to nurse this shoulder back to health.

I'm more worried about the right team winning. They are trying to sell computer games with this site: http://www.hollandstoppen.de

Better stop wearing that bright orange T-shirt saying "Where's my bike?" on the back for a while.

Number 4 ranking? FIFA rankings are a joke. Based on the fact that the US can beat its neighbours...

I can name at least a dozen nations with better football teams than the US.

As for avoiding the world cup? NOT A CHANCE!! BRING IT ON!!

It's football because they use their feet as opposed to American football where they have the ball in their hands most of the time, unless the game has come to a complete standstill (which happens far too often). I can't understand why they don't call it "Handball with 22 breaks per half".

I thought all Dutchmans wait particularly for a great revange to
Munich '74 ( Germany 2 Netherlands 1 )

I am looking forward especially to Ronaldinho's finesses, Zidane's squeezes
and Beckham's endplays!
....and of course to vu-comments like " Balicki scooooooores....!" :)

LOL I have to agree with you. Coming from New Zealand I’ve been raised knowing real men play rugby…

Well, someone has to do the dirty job, so let me stick my neck out.

1. Brazil.
2-4: Argentina, France, Netherlands in no particular order.

England and Italy will be knocked out in the quarter-finals. USA and Australia will not get through from their groups.

In my ideal scenario, England will be knocked out in the first group stages, so we can all forget about it and concentrate on a proper sporting event...

The England-Pakistan cricket series, followed up by the Ashes this winter

Yes, handball is fast and furious. I tried to watch the Superbowl final once but fell asleep, and that wasn't because of the time of day...

Thanks for the suggestion, will remember that (or find pain in places that I previously did not know existed?)
