Hi,

I've been playing this convention as a part of sayc, but maybe is not correct. i thought it was called checkback stayman, but now i'm not sure.

1m 1M
2NT* 3C**
??

*2NT: deny 4 cards support to the major response
Not deny 4 cards in the other major.
Shows regular hand 18-19 HCP.

**3C: Asking

?? Answers are:
3NT: Deny 3 cards support to the partner's major and deny 4 cards in
the other major.

3S: if partner's major are spades shows 3 cards support and deny 4 cards
in the other major. If partner's major are hearts, deny 3 cards
support but show 4 cards in this suit.

3H: same 3S

3D: Shows 3 cards support for the partner's major and shows 4 cards in
the other major. After 3D, 3S and 3H are GF and ask for controls.
4 in S or H are sign off. 3NT invitation to play NT, what can be
corrected to 4H and corrected again to 4S.

any idea?

greetings.

This is called just 'checkback' and its part of french standard. You can also have 4 cards support and cue bid at the 4 level as a response.

I play this with one of my f2f partners, it never fails. :)

Some play that 3 of the minor is a slam try for the minor and the other minor is checkback. This reduces your response scheme (showing one suit support over the other 4 carder depends on your preference) but does get you to some good minor suit slams when they are there.

Well i call it checkback stayman and not just checkback.
And i use 3D to deny having a major bid, just like normal staymay, not to say its supriour to your version. Its a good convention, but today i prefer transfers over 2nt.

nb. This kind of posts will be best if posts on begginers forum, so other beginers will know to read them.

i'm sorry. i read description for this Forum among others, 'Conventions'. i'm just asking about a convention, thus i thought it would be better here for asking.

Its not a problem, this forum is ok for everything, just that begginer's forum would be a bit better.
